Enrichment Program

On top of the behavior modifications and socialization, we believe providing enriching activities is essential to tying it all together. Pets Return Home provides hiking, swimming, treats, high quality food, toys, and tons of love to all it's dogs. We believe every one of these pups deserves to be spoiled!

Enrichment: Increase Happiness, Earn Trust

Pets Return Home primarily accepts dogs with behavior or medical issues from reputable animal rescues, municipal shelters and the Verde Valley Community as space permits. These dogs are usually saved from the kill-list at shelters, the unadoptable list for rescues or by owner surrenders.
Oftentimes, dogs are stressed when they come to the ranch due to all the changes and trauma they may have been through. By providing enrichment opportunities for our animals, PRH gives them an outlet to positively work through it.

Toys

Balls, ropes, kongs, and more. Not only does having toys around teach our dogs how to respect boundaries with the pack, it gives them the opportunity to forget about their worries. Instead they focus on chewing, tugging, playing and all the fun things about being a dog

Walks/Hikes/Swims

Each dog is taken off property for 1-5 mile hikes and swims (weather permitting) at least three times a week. The dogs are taken as a pack and individually, depending upon their level of development and needs. These activities help teach them confidence and trust with a handler and how to walk appropriately on leash. Volunteers can also come to Pets Return Home and take dogs out for a walk or hike on the nearby trails. Interested in volunteering? Apply today.

Agility Yard
AKA the playground for dogs! Our agility yard is filled with tunnels, A-frames, and platforms that allow for exercise and stimulation. PRH uses the agility yard to build trust with handlers and confidence in the dog’s ability to try new things.

Playgroups

Socializing with other dogs can sometimes take a lot of work out of rehabilitation. Our pack leaders teach and help enforce newcomers how to be respectful and what the rules of the property are. Many times, the dogs that come to Pets Return Home are considered “dog-aggressive”, but after time and patience our behaviorists are able to safely integrate them into a playgroup. Want to learn more about how we socialize our dogs? Check out our socialization page.

People Time
Shelter dogs spend a lot of time alone. Luckily, enrichment programs can help, but nothing compares to giving and receiving love that they would get in a home. That is why each of the rescue animals get individual attention from our behaviorist and volunteers. Interested in coming to love on dogs? Apply to be a volunteer today!
